EBENACEAE Gürke
Family of trees or shrubs, usually dioecious with gamopetalous flowers and fruits in fleshy berries, more rarely in capsules, belonging to the Ericales order. Composed of 3 genera and about 750 species, mostly in tropical areas. The most important genus of the family is Diospyros with some 725 species. Some are species of commercial importance, both for their edible fruits (D. kaki and D. virginiana) or for their highly valued wood (ebony). The genus Euclea is the only one represented in the area of this project.
