Achillea L.

Genus composed of about 150 species, mainly in temperate areas of the Old World, represented in North Africa by 8 species, among which A. fragantissima, a subshrub of up to 1 m, stands out for its larger size.

Another species traditionally in this genus but is now in Otanthus Hoffmanns. & Link, is O. maritimus (L.) Hoffmanns. & Link [A. maritima (L.) Ehrend. & Y.P.Guo], with stems somewhat lignified at the base but hardly reaching 0.5 m in height, erect or extended-erect, not ramose; stems and leaves completely covered in white hairs that give the plant a general whitish appearance; leaves 1-1.5 cm, from oblong to oblong-lanceolate, entire but with a slightly dentante margin; inflorescence corymbiform, with all flowers in disc florets, yellow. It grows on littoral dunes of the NE Atlantic (from Iceland to the Canary Islands) and the Mediterranean. In North Africa from Morocco to Egypt.
