Celtis L.

Genus composed of some 70 species, distributed in temperate and tropical climates of most of the world. In North Africa it is represented by a single species; C. australis, distributed through the more humid areas of the Mediterranean region. Although a further tropical species could be included, C. toka, that reaches towards the N to the S of Mauritania and the Sahelian areas of Mali, Niger, Chad and Sudan.
