Genre comprenant 17 espèces plantes herbacées annuelles, pérennes et chamæphytes, réparties dans les régions tropicales et subtropicales de l’Ancien Monde. Il est représenté dans le N. de l’Afrique par 2 espèces (ou 3 si l’on accepte T. gracile Batt. & Trab.) à tiges plus ou moins ligneuses, du moins à la base.
