Cupressus L.

Integran este género unas 19 especies distribuidas por las zonas templadas y subtropicales del hemisferio norte. En el N de África 3 especies, muy alejadas geográficamente entre sí, pero tan próximas morfológicamente que para algunos autores no se justifica su separación a nivel específico. C. sempervirens y C. atlantica se desarrollan en la región mediterránea y C. dupreziana en el Sahara central, donde todavía sobrevive como uno de los últimos vestigios que allí quedan de la vegetación mediterránea.
